History

A lot has changed since 1902, the opening year of Max and Moritz. Fortunately, however, a large part of the interior and inventory has been preserved, which makes the flair of this inn. Ranging from the original furniture, the wall reliefs that tell a brief life story of Max and Moritz, the finely painted blue-green wall tiles, the stained glass and ironwork, to the many Art Nouveau details and stucco: All elements that tell of the more than 100-year-old history famous premises that you can experience (breathe in) here

1902-1940

The inn was opened in 1902 by Felix Fournier at the 70th birthday of Wilhelm Busch, the creator of the Max and Moritz characters. Wilhelm Busch gave his consent for the local name, but never visited the inn himself (read more)

1940–2001

Nazi regime, war and the construction of the Berlin Wall brought the quarter economic decline and isolation. Many guest workers settled because of the low rent in Kreuzberg (read more)

2001–Present

In April 2006 David Ryan and Michael Kuhlmann took over the reins of Max and Moritz, with the traditional concept of a restaurant and venue, who have since run the inn with renewed vigor and a lot of passion (read more)
